Critically acclaimed Jazz superstar singer/songwriter Dee Anderson goes from strength to strength as she releases her third single Mama, taken from her forthcoming sophomore album due later this year. The track showcases Dee’s unique vocal sensitivity in a compelling and moving track about family abandonment in what Dee calls “the alternative Mother’s day theme tune”. Previous breakthrough single Make Me Smile from the widely acclaimed debut album, The White Rose, smashed into the Jazz top 10 last year and Mama is set to be even bigger for the once hailed “Queen Of Jazz”.
Hotly tipped by The Independent, The Sun and The Express, Dee is the daughter of famous husband and wife team Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the creators of the cult television series Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlet and Space 1999. Her mother, Sylvia, was also the voice of Lady Penelope in Thunderbirds! Born in Mississippi, USA, Dee came to London as a child, and grew up in a world of celebrity and entertainment. She spent much of her childhood with her grandparents. Her grandfather was one of the first boxers at the world-renowned Ring, at London`s Blackfriars, and taught her many useful skills, including how to pull a real punch!
Influenced by her family and their successes, Dee’s own passion for music grew as she listened avidly to a variety of pop music in the family record collection, ranging from The Stones to Tom Waits and Bruce Springsteen. She was keen to pursue a singing and acting career upon leaving school, and so applied for Drama School, knowing that her parents were unhappy about her entering what they saw as an insecure profession. However, they soon discovered that Dee had not only applied and been accepted, but had also won a full scholarship. Realising her determination, Gerry and Sylvia gave her their blessing, and Dee completed her training.
The years of singing along to the family record collection paid off, and Dee was told to sing professionally. She embarked on a hugely successful career as an actress and singer, appearing on television and stage. Shows included The Elvis Show in London`s West End, with Toyah Willcox in Trafford Tanzi, and in the revival of Oh Boy, alongside Shakin` Stevens, Alvin Stardust and Lulu. She also starred with Adam Faith in a theatre version of Alfie, and worked with Peter Skellern and Wendy Craig in TV shows for the BBC. Over the years, she has appeared in London`s Burning, The Bill and a host of other TV shows.
