Jack Pescod is a self-taught pianist, composer and performer who has played the piano since the age of 5. It is the love of his life.
Most of Jack’s inspirations were introduced to him by his father, who took him to see and hear some of the greatest pianists in the world - Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock and Michele Petruciani. Jack was lucky enough to go on tour with his school choir as a solo pianist when he was 12 years old, travelling through Austria, Germany, Belgium and Hungary, improvising all the way. This was when Jack Pescod knew he would be a pianist!
After this Jack played in many styles of bands, from funk to salsa from hip-hop to jazz, honing his skills throughout his teens. Jacks first major band - Barcode Trio - was formed in Oxford in 2001, consisting of double bass, drums and piano. With this set up Jack made his first album Licence to Live in 2004. Jack recorded this in one day at the Jacqueline du Pre music rooms in Oxford. Barcode trio split up in 2005.
In 2009 Jack composed a new album Home that drew more on his contemporary and classical influences. Home was recorded in that year at Potton Hall, Suffolk. Jack formed a new quartet in 2007, under the name Jack Pescod. It took 8 months of auditioning in London to find the right musicians, and then 2 years of live performing and writing to make the album Circles. This was recorded in February 2010.
Jack has just finished a duet album Faith with tabla master Sirish Kumar. Jack dedicated the record to his grandma. This is mainly improvised, with a few compositions, and was recorded live at the Aldeburgh Festival in July 2010. One of the highlights of Jack’s career so far was headlining at the Brecon Jazz Festival. Jack performed his quartet album Circles as a tribute to the legend that is Esbjorn Svensson. This was an amazing privilege, as was playing on the same bill as another of Jack’s heros, Abdullah Ibrahim.
Jack has played for many hotels and restaurants and weddings all over the country including bigger shows at the London Jazz Festival, Glastonbury Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival and the UK Parliamentary annual music event.
Jack prides himself on being able to provide specific music and energy to suit any event or function. Jack can also compose for a specific event.
