James is a seasoned presenter, host and of course, celebrity chef. He has worked as a presenter on numerous cookery shows and makes regular appearances cooking in front of the nation. In 1999, aged 23, James and his brother Chris realised their boyhood dream of owning and operating their own establishment as they opened Tanner’s Restaurant in Plymouth. Everything from bread to petit fours is made fresh each day at Tanner’s with a great emphasis upon seasonal local produce. In a short space of time it has become one of the best known restaurants in the South West. Recently, it was voted as the Best Restaurant in the UK for 2007/8 in the AA Awards, a huge and rarely bestowed honour.

James has appeared on some of the nations favourite cooking shows and is one of the most popular chefs appearing on Ready Steady Cook. He has appeared on Step up to the Plate, Take on the Takeaway, Saturday Kitchen, Something for the Weekend and he is currently filming a new series for BBC2 called Put Your Menu Where Your Mouth Is. James has been a regular co-presenter for Great Food Live, broadcast on UKTV Food and has also filmed his own 15 part series, alonside his Brother Chris, entitled The Tanner Brothers, broadcast on the Carlton South West. James also regularly appears as guest chef on This Morning.

James has enjoyed success as an author penning two dessert-based Cook Books with his Brother and fellow Chef Chris. For Chocolate Lovers, their first outing, was a huge success and they were invited to write another book straight after. Ice Cream was published in March 2008 and again was a resounding success. James is extremely proud of his involvement in the Red Tractor campaign. The campaign focuses on an alliance of farmers, processors, retailers and distributors who work together to maintain and raise production standards in the food industry. James is passionate about using local, seasonal and sustainable produce of excellent standards and so involvement in Red Tractor was a fantastic opportunity for James to make a real difference to the industry he loves.
